evaluation of college magazine

What went well - the colour scheme went well together, i used light text on a darker surface to make it stand out and so the text was readable and eye catching. The name of my magazine really stands out as the text is put in bold and slanted across the page. I also had my pictures from the beginning there for i was able to start work straight away and had as much time as possible to finish my college magazine. My contents page matches the front cover on terms of font and the style of how the texts is placed.
What didn't go too well? i didn't have many ideas for my contents page therefore it looks slightly plain and that a lot could be added to it.
What would you have added to it if you could - i would have added some more detail to my contents page i.e. I would have added colour and some pictures to make it look more attractive.
How close to professional standard was it - not very as it needs more cover lines on the front cover and the contents page needed to look more interesting.

research and planning for music magazine

For my music magazine, the genre i have chosen is indie. I have chosen this as this as this is the type of genre i am most interested in and i know more information about it. Indie is also rather popular with the age range i am trying to appeal too. This genre of music includes bands such as The drums, The kooks, Florence and the machine and Vampire weekend.  My target audience is going to be students and young adults. The reason i chose this target audience is because, as i am also a young adult, this is the audience i can relate to the most.

For my main story i am going to photograph my friend Sofia as she regularly sings at different venues and fits in with the genre of music i have chosen. On the front cover i shall have a picture of her posing on her own and you will see her from the waist upwards. this is mainly so you can see her face in detail but you can still see enough of her body to understand what she looks like. The background colour will be a different colour to any of what is on her body to make her stand out and be the main focus of the front cover. For the main story i shall have pictures of her singing on stage and with her band and varies photos of her singing on her own.

My magazine is going to represent both male and female and is going to appeal to a young adult audience. Because it is appealing to both sex's i am going to use all different colour's such as green, pink, and orange so it still looks appealing either way. The title of my magazine is going to be live and the reason i chose this title for my magazine is because its going to be all about live music and up and coming bands playing at there shows. As the title links with what the magazine is about my audience will immediately know what is inside my magazine and whether they want to buy it therefore increasing in sales of my publication. Also this is a short title making it memorable.

Other magazines that are of the same style are NME and Rolling Stone.  Nme is owned by Time Warner Inc. In the magazine it represents mostly men and uses dull colours like black white and red. Rolling Stone is owned by Jann Wenner and also represents mainly men. This also uses dull colours like black and grey. I chose for my magazine to be both sex's and to give it a lot of colour because i wanted it to be different that current music magazine of today.  

college magazine research and planning

In my college magazine so far i have added a picture of a young male with tattoos across his chest. The background is a bright green colour so he as the image stands out and makes it eye catching.
I have simply named it COLLEGE as this is where it is going to be sold and what it is going to be about. The story's i have added around the edge include The big protest, exam stress, and a story to go with the main picture, about tattoo's. These story's relate to the target audience as they will be the people affected by the issues the most, for example exam stress, as there are exams coming up in January.
I have given my college magazine a more edgy look to attract more people to read the magazine and increase product sales as it makes it makes you want to read it because it looks interesting.
To create this front cover i shall be using Abobe InDesign CS5 and Adobe Photoshop CS5. I shall be using InDesign to structure the front cover and Photoshop to edit the images i use.

Today we finished off our magazine covers.
I put everything in there exact place and edited the colors to look right.
When i had finished i did some research for my college magazine. i looked at what sort of images i could put on the front cover and i also looked at what kind of story's would be suitable.

today we started to finish of our magazine covers.
I edited the background of the image to it was all clear and i added me edited text.
I then dragged an image of a bar code into the right hand corner of my magazine cover.

6th october, editing front cover

In todays lesson we uploaded our own image onto indesign and edited it to fit the requirments.
when then added text to look like the magazine cover we are trying to replicate. We did this by copying the font, changing the font size and making it the same colour.

28nd september 2010; using design

Last lesson we used Adobe Indesign CS5.
As we had never used this before we took a few minutes to get used to all the different tools and how they work.
We then used this to create the front cover of a health magazine shown to us by Yvonne.
We had to load up and resize a photo, create and edit text and load up a bar code to look like the cover we had seen.
